Response Paper Slavery Essay After examining the documents in the Major Problems text, it can be said that slavery did play a role in creating tension between northerners and southerners. But was it the overriding concern? Although slavery played a role in creating the feud , politics also came into play. There are several reasons for the tension between the two groups, but the the biggest reasons may be slavery and its’ politics together. The questions here is what arguments separated the two groups by the 1850s? An example of one of the arguments that separated the two groups was based on the subject of the South not having equal protection. While reading Document 5, Senator Albert G. Brown goes on to state â€Å"our property has never been treated like the property of other people†.In that statement when Brown said â€Å"our property†, he was referring to the South. Albert continues by explaining how the Government had failed to protect their property. Towards the end of the paragraph he had explained that the Government would start a war with a foreign country before â€Å"they† would insist on protecting on their homeland.
